Lewis & Clark
Exhibit
The Children’s
Museum
of Eastern Oregon,
the Arts Council of Pendleton, the Umatilla County Historical Society, and Tamastslikt Cultural Institute are partners in a Lewis
& Clark project. This project will encompass youth from pre-school
through high school and will result in an exhibit at the Children’s
Museum and a mural on a building in downtown Pendleton. The project will
provide a craft camp for pre-schoolers at the
Children’s Museum, an art camp for older children at the Pendleton
Center for the Arts, and a two-week
mural class for teens with support from the Historical Society and Tamastslikt Cultural Institute.
The exhibit at the Children’s Museum is sponsored by the Juan Young
Trust, promoting the health, education and welfare of children in the state
of Oregon.
Part of the exhibit will include a historically-correct replica of a keel
boat. The boat, complete with mast and sail, is being built by the Creative
Arts Program at Eastern Oregon Correctional Institute. An authentic
Native-American teepee will also be part of the exhibit. Kimberly Dennis
will again be painting a mural for the exhibit walls. This is so exciting!
The Children’s Museum has also received $20,000.00 worth of
advertising support from Oregon Public Broadcasting for the Lewis &
Clark Exhibit! The Children’s Museum will benefit from OPB television
and radio ads, the OPB membership magazine, their e-newletter
and web site!
